Various urban myths are attached to the passageway that stretches along the entire length of the University of Leeds’s Earth Sciences building and the adjacent E.C. Stoner building – allegedly ‘the longest corridor in Europe’. Red Route is a performance and walking tour that takes participants on a journey – more or less in a straight line – from one end to the other. Along the way, we hear the story of the grand architectural vision of which the corridor was a part, and which never quite came to fruition – a story of utopian dreams, efficiency schemes, and financial squeeze. Originally mounted for Light Night 2008 (under the title Line of Sight), this performance returns due to popular demand. It will shortly also be available as a downloadable audio tour.
