The combination of textiles and sonic art has given birth to some bizarre children. Using their special powers, creatures knitted from wire will intercept unheard signals from the atmosphere and translate them into sound. The audience is free to play with these newfound electric pets.

Electric pets is a project by Louise Atkinson and Chris Martin. Having met over a year ago at a networking event, they discussed the idea of knitted electrical wires, which could be used to pick up sounds. This exhibition is the first physical stage arising from that discussion.

Louise works in various media including sculpture, textiles, bookbinding and printmaking. Her work explores our desire to understand and control the relationship with our environment. She enjoys giving her audience opportunity for interaction, often inviting them to touch and interact with her installations.

Chris stumbled into the world of sonic art through a final year university project. His sound based work has investigated the transition of local soundscapes from industrial to digital, and the ability of sound to alter people's perception of space.

This project is kindly supported and hosted by The Old Broadcasting House.
